2023-23 Premier League Matchweek 14 Arsenal vs Wolves: Can the Gunners remain on top? November 30, 2023 by Marc Jerbs

Arsenal and Wolverhampton Wanderers will face each other in an intriguing clash at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, December 2, in what could be a close and competitive game.

Both teams have had decent starts to the season, with Arsenal showing signs of improvement and consistency, and Wolves proving to be a tough and resilient side.

Arsenal are currently at the top of the table after winning nine, drawing three and losing one of their first 13 games. The Gunners have scored 27 goals and conceded 10, with Eddie Nketiah and Bukayo Saka leading the scoring charts with 5 and 4 goals respectively.

Mikel Arteta's side have shown great form and confidence, drawing with Chelsea and beating Sheffield United, Burnley and Brentford.

The former Arsenal captain has implemented a positive and balanced philosophy in his team, and has got the best out of his players, especially the young and talented ones. Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith Rowe, Gabriel Martinelli and Ben White have all impressed, and have added flair and solidity to the squad.

Wolves, on the other hand, are 12th in the table, with 15 points from their first 13 games. The Wolves have scored 18 goals and conceded 23, with Hwang Hee-chan and Raul Jimenez scoring four goals each.

Bruno Lage's side have struggled to find their best form, losing to Fulham and Sheffield United while

drawing with Newcastle. The former Benfica boss has tried to implement his own style and system, but has faced difficulties in adapting to the Premier League and dealing with injuries and suspensions. Adama Traore, Ruben Neves, Joao Moutinho and Conor Coady have all shown flashes of quality, but have also been inconsistent and ineffective at times.

Lage will be hoping that his key players can step up and deliver, and that his team can improve their offensive efficiency and defensive discipline.

The last time these two teams met was in May 28, 2023, when Arsenal dominated the Wolves 5-nil at Emirates Stadium, thanks to goals from Granit Xhaka (11', 14') Bukayo Saka (27') Gabriel Jesus (58') and Jakub Kiwior (78').

The Gunners have a clear edge over the Wolves in their recent head-to-head record, winning five, drawing one and losing none of their last six meetings in all competitions. However, Wolves have been a tricky opponent for Arsenal in the past, and have managed to score in four of their last six visits to the Emirates Stadium.

Both teams will be eager to get a positive result on Saturday, as they aim to maintain or improve their positions in the table. Arsenal will be confident of extending their unbeaten run, and will look to exploit Wolves' defensive weaknesses and lack of creativity. Wolves will be desperate to end their winless run, and will look to use their pace and physicality to unsettle Arsenal's rhythm and balance.

The game is likely to be a tight and tense one, with few goals and chances for both sides. The fans can expect a hard-fought and exciting encounter, as two ambitious and determined teams go head-to-head in a crucial match.
